At our neighborhood kindergarten and elementary schools, students jump rope. It is part of their lessons. They keep record of how many times they can jump without missing. They do this every day. They even have jump rope homework sometimes. As they get older they do other things like run as they jump, twist the rope, etc.
These jump ropes are now sold in America. The white piece of plastic can be moved on the rope to adjust its length. Then the handle is put back on and screwed to that green plastic piece.
Jumping rope is a wonderful way for kids to stay active and it's a fun activity for families to do with their kids too.
ReplyDeleteYounger kids have a hard time spinning their own rope (typically they develop that coordination around the age of 6 with some practice and patience)
have young students stand in front of you as you swing the rope over their head. See if you can both jump together. it's called the big little.
You can also each hold one end of the rope and take turns jumping.
More and more research is showing the importance of physical activity for improved academics and learning. Jumping rope is a great activity to stimulate learning. Counting while jumping, or reciting other school lessons is a great idea.
Your school sounds like they've come to understand the concept. Great job.
