Today's Setting Sun

Gorgeous sunset out there. No crows, though. And no bats. Something on the horizon?

The Morning After the Typhoon

 Mt. Fuji looked like this.

I could see the damage to the corn from the roof. This is ground zero.

The corn looked like this before the typhoon.

Yesterday, the zucchini in another farmer's field was curved.

Today, it's twisted.

His corn is a little bent, but still standing.

Our vegetable stand is open today.

Cucumbers, tomatoes, potatoes, green beans, carrots and onions made it to the shelves. Bags of edamame, too. Some of their stalks were flattened and muddied.

A little more damage in the next post.

These photos were taken with a Panasonic Lumix 10x.

Snow!

Mt. Fuji has been snow-capped since November.

Today, Tokyo was capped in snow.

The snow highlighted the mountains to the west. I could actually see them this morning.

Look closely through the wires and beyond.

Funny, no birds were sitting on the wires this morning.

Happy New Year--First View of the New Year

Mt. Fuji had a big cloud stuck to it at sunset last evening. We have clear skies this morning in our piece of Tokyo sky. (This is not at sunrise.)

So glad we still have our view. Even with the wires draping it. It could have been different.

Our View Saved!

We kept our eyes on the height of the rooftops of the new houses waiting to see if they were going to block our view of Mt. Fuji. They don't! The clouds lifted for a while this morning and we saw we still had our view.

Houses Going Up

The houses are going up fast.

We're hoping the rooftops will not reach to the top of those poles!

Our View

Four houses will stand where the community gardens were. See the new fences? And the portable potty? Our view of Mt. Fuji from the roof garden may be gone. It depends how tall the houses are.

65th Anniversary of the Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima

Mt. Fuji made an appearance again today. This time at sunset.

For the first time, the United States sent a representative to attend the memorial service in Hiroshima.

Tennis Court Lights & Mt. Fuji

So glad the new lights at the newly remodeled tennis courts are on the left. Mt. Fuji is on the right. Can you see Mt. Fuji through the haze? Usually we're not able to see it during summer. We're losing our view of it little by little anyway. Buildings are going up. Wires are draped across. Click on the photo to enlarge it. The sunset is highlighting the new tennis light poles.

Another sunset picture from a different direction. Looks like a heart cloud.

A Roof with a View

If you look closely (with a telephoto lens) you'll see,

Mt. Fuji! Our view has gotten more crowded over the years. Click on the label below to see more views of Mt. Fuji. Note the picture taken in October. There was no snow on it.

Mt. Fuji Today

We were surprised to see Mt. Fuji this morning from the roof garden. We were also surprised to see there was still snow on top.

The other picture was taken with the zoom lens. This is how it looks from our roof garden.

View from the Roof, Views of Mt. Fuji

On a clear day, you can see pretty far even in Tokyo with all the obstructions. We are lucky enough to have a view of Mt. Fuji from our roof garden. Though Mt. Fuji is far away, many people in Tokyo have a view of it. Before the neighbors built their house next door, Big Sister and Little Brother could see the mountain from their bedrooms. Unfortunately, a year or so ago, more utility poles were put up and wires were draped across our view. We still enjoy the view, though. Today Mt. Fuji had a small cloud caught on top. In the summer, Mt. Fuji is rarely seen. It is surrounded by clouds.

Even though it was a clear day today, it was hazy around the mountain. It was a clear blustery day. It was too blustery to go anywhere, so these are the only pictures I got. There is an eighteen story apartment house being built down our street. This is the view of it. It will tower in the distance over our neighbors' red roof and our roof garden. It will block some of our sky. We can still see some of the range of mountains (on the right). Mt. Fuji is more to the right and is not in the picture.

Another view at sunset. This is the actual view from our roof. The other pictures were taken with a telephoto lens.
