The Littlest Sakura Tree

I took photos of this little sakura tree in the spring when it was in full bloom. I pointed out the mark on the wall. It was made from a dirt speck on my camera lens. I took these photos with a different camera.

Sweet Olive

In the first weeks of October, the air is heavy with the sweet perfume of kinmokusei trees. The small trees near our grocery store were heavily in bloom. The trees can get really tall.

The Neighbor's Camellia

This potted camellia was blooming in a neighbor's garden. That yellow plastic chain is their gate, I guess. I've never seen it hooked to the other pole (outside the picture).

It seems a little late for camellias.

End of winter?

Trees are severely pruned here in the city, but they (usually) branch out again in the spring. It looks and feels like winter in Tokyo these days, but things are beginning to sprout.

Willow Trees in Ginza

When we went to the kabuki theater we saw many willow trees in the Ginza area. This one is among ume trees. This willow tree still has (or it already has) leaves.

This one is beginning to get leaves. See the sign at the foot of the tree? I jumped out of the car to take this picture. I wish I had crossed the street to see what it says, but I couldn't. It probably gives the name of the tree. Yanagi is willow in Japanese. That is Baba's maiden name.

Wrapped Tree

Click on the photo to enlarge it. It looks like a Halloween decoration. This persimmon tree is wrapped. Any idea why?

Stripped Bark

I didn't know crape myrtle trees do this. It looks like they shed their skin at the end of summer. All of them had strips of barking hanging from their branches and on the ground around their trunks.

We usually visit these trees in the winter at Jindai Botanical Gardens. Then they are bare of leaves and their branches and trunks look smooth and slippery. Crape myrtle is called "monkey slip" (or slide) in Japanese. These photos were taken September 10th.

June is the season for biwa or loquat. This picture was taken a couple of days ago when it was sunny. It rained all day today.

Nogawa Koen

Those are pine needles on the ground at Nogawa Park. . Those are roots coming up out of the ground.

Every Day is Earth Day!

There is always something blooming in our neighborhood. The dogwood is blooming now. This is the view from our roof garden.

Okunitama Shrine

I saw this sign as I left Okunitama Shrine in Fuchu. It is for an ume (plum blossom) festival. It is hanging from a light post along the street.

I only got one picture of a ume tree in bloom. Come to think of it, it was the only I saw! The blossoms were late this year. I haven't seen many trees in bloom in our neighborhood.

Driveway Citrus Tree

This citrus tree was next to a house and its driveway. That is the fence that is pulled to close the driveway from the street. Note the shuttered window.
