A Little Typhoon Damage

Gathering Before the Typhoon

Clouds gathered and so did crows! These photos make a panoramic view of our neighborhood at 5:30 P.M. Look closely. Click on the photos to enlarge them.

It was raining a lot. They sat in the rain and traded places once in a while. I wouldn't say they were playing. They looked pretty miserable.

More Sun Needed

Morning glories are an important part of summer in Japan. Ours are not doing well this year. The sun came out today but we've had many cloudy or rainy days this summer. The typhoon missed us but hit Taiwan. We wish them well. They are having a hard time.

Earthquakes, Typhoons, and Supplies---OH MY!

We had an earthquake last night. The shaking went on and on and on and on and on. Click on the link below to see more about it.

Then this morning we had a downpour of rain! It came from the typhoon that hit China.

It's too wet to check the earthquake supplies in the shed outside. I peeked in and found some of the food has expired. OH MY!

Emergency Food

This is a packet of emergency food.

Can you figure out how to make this pork and garlic rice dish? Sounds good. Too bad it has expired. Usually, I replace the food packets before they expire. We have "camp food nights" and eat the food before it expires.

Schedule for the Storm

Little Brother brought this memo home on September 5th. It says a typhoon is heading for Japan and will make landfall on the 7th. Another memo tells us what to do about school if it hits on the morning of the 7th.

This is basically what it says:

1) If it's raining heavily and the wind is strong, stay home.
2) If it starts to rain heavily and the wind starts to blow heavily on your way to school, go back home.
3) If you're at school and the typhoon hits, you will go home in your neighborhood group (the one they walk to school with on the first days back to school). Teachers will lead a group to its usual meeting place. A parent is expected to watch the storm and be at home (or make other plans) in case children come home early.

I watched for the storm. Little Brother made it through a whole day of school and came home at the usual time. The storm is moving slowly and is expected to reach landfall at 7:00 P.M. Tokyo time. School will start at 10:30 tomorrow unless the storm is still strong. Big Sister had to leave school early, too.

Typhoon Man Yi

A big typhoon has hit Japan. There has been damage in areas outside Tokyo. In west Tokyo where we live, there has been some rain and a little wind. The skies cleared a little at sunset. Click on the photos to enlarge them.

There was sun for a short time.

There really hasn't been much rain in our area. There was enough to leave some standing between the rows of corn in the field behind our house.

During typhoons, we close the shutters, drink tea, and watch the weather channel. (We close shutters at night, too.) The biggest danger of typhoons in Tokyo is wind. Things take flight.
