End of Summer Sale--Shiso Pepsi

I posted about shiso and shiso Pepsi here. Today, I found some on a sale table at the grocery store. We had it with lunch. Though it's not one of our favorites, it is refreshing. Like the cucumber Pepsi in the summer of 2007.

Today is cold and rainy. A typhoon is supposed to hit Tokyo this afternoon. It is a day for drinking hot green tea.

Shiso

This is the way shiso is sold in grocery stores. Sometimes it is placed on ice or on wet paper towels in the vegetable section.

Shiso is used as a garnish. Raw fish is placed on top of shiso leaves. Shiso is also sliced in strips and sprinkled on top of rice.

Earlier in the summer, there was a shiso Pepsi available at convenience stores. We tasted it. It tasted like shiso. I didn't get a picture of it and now I can't find it in our area.

One summer there was a cucumber Pepsi.

Obentou for a School Outing

Today Little Brother went on a school outing. He needed to take an obentou or boxed lunch. This morning, I made him onigiri or rice balls for his lunch box. I also put small weiners, smoked cheese, slices of mikan and a tomato in the obentou box. Two of the onigiri had yukari or flakes of dried shiso in them. One was just plain rice. I forgot to put in nori or slices of seaweed for him to wrap the onigiri. I'll take pictures of obentou that are more typical.

We got this lunch box at 31 (Baskin Robbins) as a gift. It stacks together. Click on the label below to see more pictures.

(When writing the word obentou in romaji, a "u" is used. It makes the "o" long.)
